Graduate and postgraduate studies
Physical education and fysiotherapy are taught in a number of universities and schools through the country (french website). Both in courses of fysiotherapy and of physical education students are given a basic knowledge on adapted physical activity (APA). At university, PE students can choose to specialize in APA during their final 3 years.
The ‘Adavanced studies in Europen Master in Adapted Physical Activity' (EMDAPA) is a European postgraduate program in Leuven . During 1 year the students study APA and state of the art research on APA.
The postgraduate study on Psychomotor therapy is focussed on sports and movement therapy for children and adults with psychiatric problems.
Additional courses
The ‘Vlaamse trainersschool’ (Flemisch school of coaches) organises a series of courses for coaching in APA. There is a general course on the specificities of sports for people with a handicap. Furthermore there are sport-specific courses for sports like horse-back riding, wheelchair basketball and swimming.
Physical Education (PE)
Stichting Vlaamse Schoolsport is a coordinating federation in Flanders for sport at school. They aim at a policy of offering more sports to the students, irrespective of their abilities.
