Sports Structure of Flanders
In
the Dutch Speaking part of Belgium there are 3 sports
federations for people with a disability:
1. Vlaams
Liga Gehandicaptensport
This is a recognized federation for competitionsports
for people with a disability. Together with the French
Speaking Federation (FSBAP-WB), they are part of the
national Belgian Paralympic Committee (BPC). All sports
available for people with a disability can be done
in this Flemish Liga. You can find a list of sports,
sportclubs on their website, together with the information
where to do it and who to contact.
2.
Recreas
Recreas is a recognized federation for
recreative sports for people with a disability in
the Flemish part of Belgium. They organize sportive
activities which are ment for both adults as children.
More then 40 sportclubs are member of this federation.
A lot of these clubs organize activities on their
own. The goal is to motivate each individual who wants
to play sports. When you click on the ‘activities’
of Recreas you find all the clubs, days of sports,
adapted holidays,….
3.
Psylos
Psylos is a recognized Flemish federation
of sports, life in open air, physical education and
social cultural work in the mental health care. There
clubs can be found in psychiatric hospitals, psychiatric
institutions and so on. Click on their ‘calendar’
to find out what they do, or on ‘workgroups’
to see how they organize everything!
Together with this 3
federations, 5 provincial services are responsible
for sports. They have an umbrella website, i.e. vrijetijdsbank,
for all kind of activities for people with disabilities.

4.Special
Olympics Belgium (SOB)
Special Olympics is an international
movement for mentally handicapped. It offers to all
of them , starting from the age of 8, the possibilities
to exercercise sports and trainingprogrammes and to
participate in competitions.
Special Olympics Belgium is a part of this international
movement. They organize sportactivities of all different
kinds. Every year they organize the National Special
Olympics. Here you find sportcompetitions, animation,
an art gallery and the Healthty Athlete Program.

Sports Structure of Wallonie
There are three sport federations for people with a disability.
1. Fédération du Sport Belge Adapté et Paralympique - Wallonie-Bruxelles
(FSBAP-WB)
This is a recognised federation for paralympic sports. In cooperation with the Vlaams Liga Gehandicaptensport, the federation is part of the Belgian Paralympic Committee. All sports available for people with a disability can be practised in the numerous clubs: the list of sports and sportclubs can be received from the federation.
2. Fédération Multisports Adaptés (FEMA)
The goal of FéMA is to encourage adapted physical activities in a vision of sports for all, leisure sports, health sports and individual sports. They want to promote sports in different disciplines and different disabilities because everyone has the right to find an adapted sport. The activities of this federation are devoted to leisure and recreative sports. The federation organizes activities for both adults and children with motor, physical or mental disability or multihandicap.

Olympics Belgium
Special Olympics is an international movement
