Sports structure

On a governmental level the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports is a leading umbrella for governmental attention to physical activities for all and to competitive sports (including international cooperation – general as well as in the framework of European programs).

On a non-governmental level there are different sports federations. Among them the Czech Sports Federation, which is an organisation of sports clubs and institutions for competitive sports for all. They support integrated action of sportsmen with a disability and cooperate with many other sport organisations, e.g. Czech Paralympic Committee.

The Czech association Sports for all is an organisation of sports clubs, institutions and civic associations which is orientated only on a recreational level of physical activities of all ages people, including commercial area (limited with special rules and legislation).

On the website of the Union of handicapped sportsmen you can find their cooperation with:

  1. Czech federation of sportsmen with central disorder of dynamics“Spastic Handicap”. This federation engages in organisation of sports and tourism for people with a permanent handicap in consequence of damage of the central brain system (mainly congenital defect or cerebral palsy).   2. Czech Sports Association for Mentally Handicapped. This is a specific association of separate sports sections, unions, clubs, organisations,… which supports sports and tourism of mentally handicapped sportsmen.

  4. Czech union of visual handicapped sportsmen

The Czech federation of visual handicapped sportsmen is specialized in sports activities for visually handicapped sportsmen. On their website you can choose for the section “Sports” (Sporty) and read information about: Athetics (Atletika), Cycling (Cyklistika), Football (Fotbal), Bowling (Kuželky), Skiing (Lyžování), Swimming (Plavání), Tourism (Turistika)… and others. To find adresses of sports clubs go to “Contacts” (Kontakty), “Adresses of sports clubs and union” (Adresář sportovních klubů a jednot).

The Czech Wheelchair Tennis Association (CWTA) has been founded in 1995 and went ineffaceably into the awareness of home fans of wheelchair tennis as well as the International Wheelchair Tennis Association (IWTA.)
Since 1995 CWTA has been a member of the International Wheelchair Tennis Federation IWTF (today ITF – section IWTA) representing the Czech Republic and a collective member of the CWTA. Wheelchair tennis has been a full scale part of the Czech Paralympics Movement since 2002. It designates players for the Paralympic games (players meeting the designation criteria of the Czech Paralympic council).

In the Czech Republic football for disabled and abled people is united in the Czech-Moravian Football Federation. This federation takes part in the policy “CARE OF FOOTBALL” of the UEFA, which main activities are UEFA football week for Special Olympics, development of Deaf-football, amputees or Cerebral Palsy football, McDonald Cup and others – opened for teams with disabilities, etc.

Sokol is a traditional, historical sports organisation which started with sports development in 1869. It combines sports for all as well as competitive sports, mainly “creative sports” like gymnastics, aerobics etc. Sokol cooperates on the field of disabled gymnastics and therefore cooperates with civic organizations.

The main aim of the Czech Paralympics Committee is the development of national and international paralympic ideas. IPC (International Paralympic Committee) is oriented on top competitive sports (from youth age up to adults). In the framework of IPC you can find Deaflympics and/or INAS-FID (Federation of Intellectual Disability), as well as continental or other top events.

The main goal of the Czech Special Olympics is to enlarge the base for regular, consistent, and well-organized sports and training programs for the mentally handicapped.

Cerebral palsy
Society „Duha“ Foundation for children with cerebral palsy. Their goal is to improve the organisation of sports and cultural actions ment for integration of handicapped people in current life.

In every of the 14 districts you can find 2 committees:

  1. committee for sports development
  2. committee for rights of minorities

Both committees are obligatory under Czech legislation of communal policy and municipality responsibility. You can find them on the website of each determined district.
