Education

Educational Structure

Primary and Secondary (elementary) education (Formal, LOGSE 1990):
The law which regulate the education system in Spain is the LOGSE (1990). This law regulates the integration of children with disabilities in schools in both levels, primary and secondary. But not all children with disabilities take part in this. Children with several disabilities or high level of disability are educated in special education centres. A multidisciplinary team (psychologists, pedagogues, etc.) make this evaluation, according the level of disability. More than 50% of children with disabilities share class with children without in ordinary school. The law regulates the kind of formation and the adaptation of the curricula to the class/child.

Physical Education (PE)

Pupils will learn Physical Education through general exercises of primary physical education, psychomotor activity, games and adapted sports, related to their disabilities. Along these ways it must help the children to understand his/her disability in an environment of integration, at the same time that of their classmates.

Education for trainers/ teachers

Formal education in APA

Postgraduate degree: Different Universities impart Master Degrees and specialisation courses on APA for graduates. The most important are:
European EMDAPA Master on APA. INEFC- Lleida.
Master on APA. INEFC- Barcelona.

Informal education on APA

Out of the official professional training, we can find in Spain private organisations that impart courses for graduates no only in APA, also in different therapies for persons with disabilities. We can show:

    • Private study centres on Disability. In collaboration with private universities they impart courses on APA rehabilitation, for example Psychomotricist, that after this universities certify the courses.
    • Handicapped people associations. They impart courses on sport for specific disabilities, guide interested people to learn about this field. This titulation is valid in other private organisations only.
    • Sport for Handicapped people Federations : the federations impart courses for trainers or referee in different sports for one specific disability. This courses usually have three levels; for province, autonomous community or nationality competitions. This is informal education but is recognised for the government. But all of this depends for each federation.
